Context
The digital tools market is evolving fast. Web hosting, WordPress plugins, AI solutions, email tools and marketing platforms often come with offers that are hard to compare: intro pricing, renewal rates, features that vary by plan, technical limitations, or audiences the tool is really suited to.
Comparatek was designed as an editorial platform able to centralize this information and present it more clearly. The site doesn't just publish lists of tools. It organizes solutions by use case, strengths, limitations, documentation quality, and the profiles they suit.
The platform covers several complementary areas: hosting, WordPress plugins, AI and marketing tools, detailed reviews, head-to-head comparisons, alternatives, and buying guides.
Starting need
The project had to address several challenges at once.
The first was building a visual identity strong enough to set Comparatek apart from generic affiliate blogs. The interface needed to evoke technology, analysis and comparison, while staying clear and accessible on both desktop and mobile.
The second challenge concerned content organization. The same solution can appear in a product page, a ranking, a head-to-head comparison, an alternatives page, or a recommendation tailored to a specific profile. It was important to avoid building each page manually and instead set up a structure solid enough to reuse the underlying data.
Finally, the site had to balance organic search performance, editorial scalability, outbound click tracking and transparency. Comparatek notably publishes a methodology, a correction policy and information about affiliation, to distinguish verified data, information still to confirm, and editorial recommendations.

Visual identity design
A dark, tech-forward art direction was created around midnight blue, electric blue and purple tones.
The design relies on:
- an immersive, instantly recognizable hero section;
- highly readable typography with a strong hierarchy;
- modular cards for tools and comparisons;
- badges to quickly flag a status or advantage;
- graphic elements inspired by SaaS interfaces and technical environments;
- a responsive layout designed to keep data readable on mobile.
The goal wasn't only to produce a good-looking homepage, but to build a genuine visual system reusable across the whole catalog.
Building a scalable editorial architecture
Comparatek is built on several interlinked page types:
- tool categories;
- individual product pages;
- head-to-head comparisons between two solutions;
- alternatives to a tool;
- selections based on a profile or need;
- editorial guides;
- methodology and transparency pages.
This organization turns a base of structured information into several complementary editorial formats. A single product page can feed a catalog, appear in a head-to-head comparison, be offered as an alternative, or be included in a themed selection.
The site also has pages designed to match precise search intents, such as choosing a hosting plan based on your profile or directly comparing two solutions.
Building reusable components
The various blocks were designed as reusable components: cards, scores, badges, pros, cons, pricing, comparison tables, recommendations, FAQ and calls to action.
This approach brings several benefits:
- consistent presentation across all pages;
- simpler maintenance;
- the ability to update a component globally;
- less duplicated content in the code;
- faster creation of new product pages or comparisons.
Building a comparison system
The platform can bring several solutions together based on shared criteria: positioning, pricing, features, performance, ease of use, support, or use cases.
The displayed score isn't shown in isolation. It can come with a coverage level flagging how much information is available, to avoid incomplete data being read as a definitive conclusion. The hosting page, for example, explains that the ranking combines fit for use, data coverage, sources, and visible limitations.
Technical SEO and content architecture
SEO was built into the project from the design stage.
The work notably included:
- short URLs organized by content type;
- pages tailored to different search intents;
- a clear heading hierarchy;
- internal linking between categories, product pages, comparisons, alternatives and guides;
- metadata tailored to each page;
- structured content to make it easier for search engines to crawl;
- an editorial sitemap linking the main resources.
This structure lets Comparatek grow as a thematic platform rather than a series of standalone articles.
Performance and outbound link tracking
A dedicated route, of the /api/go/[slug] type, handles certain outbound clicks. It centralizes destinations, measures interactions, and lets a link be updated without having to revisit every page that uses it.
The measurement setup also includes Google Analytics 4, FineTracking and Google Search Console. Audience measurement tools are conditioned on user consent.
Data enrichment pipeline
The project includes a pipeline designed to enrich and maintain tool-related data. Gemini can be used to assist certain processing steps based on product data and official sources.
Artificial intelligence doesn't replace editorial judgment, though. The transparency and correction pages were specifically built to flag incomplete information, update outdated pricing, and avoid presenting uncertain data as a firm recommendation.
Deployment and media management
The application is deployed on Vercel, to take advantage of an environment suited to modern web apps and continuous deployment.
Media assets can be externalized to Cloudflare R2 depending on the configuration used. This keeps visual content separate from the application code and preserves a more flexible infrastructure as the catalog grows.
Design choices
Designing a platform, not just a blog
The main choice was not to treat Comparatek as a simple editorial site. The architecture had to be able to progressively take on more data, categories and formats without needing a rebuild at every step.
The modular design makes it easy to add new tool families, comparison criteria or page templates.
Making limitations visible
Comparison sites tend to highlight a winner without explaining how reliable the underlying data actually is. Comparatek takes a different approach, showing known limitations, information coverage and points still to verify.
This choice makes recommendations easier to read and gives readers more to work with when making their own decision.
Balancing automation and editorial control
Structured data and dynamic templates make it possible to produce a large number of consistent pages. They shouldn't, however, generate artificial or repetitive content.
The architecture was therefore designed to automate structure and data reuse, while keeping dedicated space for analysis, judgment calls and human writing.
Preparing the project for continuous evolution
The tools being compared regularly change prices, features or commercial terms. The platform had to be designed from day one as a living product.
Product pages, criteria, sources, links and statuses can therefore be updated progressively without having to rethink the whole site structure.
Result
Comparatek now has a coherent visual and technical foundation to grow into a genuine comparison ecosystem.
The project brings together:
- a distinctive visual identity;
- a catalog organized by category;
- detailed product pages;
- head-to-head comparisons and alternatives pages;
- recommendations tailored to different profiles;
- an extensible SEO architecture;
- tracking of interactions and partner links;
- an editorial method that makes sources, limitations and corrections visible.
Beyond the visual execution, this project demonstrates JD Création Web's ability to design a complex content platform, structure reusable data, and build a tool meant to evolve over the long run.
